Baldur's Gate 3 character creation has set other character customization that could be the best we've ever seen in an RPG game in years.
Good news and bad news is depending on who the information is for. The good news for PC players Baldur's Gate 3 comes out on August 3rd. We know you've probably been playing since its early access release in 2020.
How in-depth is Baldur's Gate 3 character creation?
When looking to create your character there are the prebuild characters that are a part of the game. These will be predetermined builds meaning all of the skillsets will be for that character already set.
Firstly there are different tabs you will navigate Origins, Race, Class, Skills, and Abilities.
Origins and background
Origins and background are simple in the early access version while origins don't play too much of a role just yet. Origin lets you pick where your character is from.
Background can play on the mechanic increasing skill or giving you a bonus in proficiency.
Just keep in mind what you pick in origin and background will play a part in your skills too.
Race and Subrace
Race and subrace will affect your base stats and your weapon stats and many others. Keep in mind Githyanki, Humans are the only races that do not have a subrace.
Your race also affects how you and other NPCs interact. Some races are not huge fans of Halflings while Dwarfs can be extremely mean to Elf's vice versa.
There are 8 races in the early access and two more the Dragonborn and Half-orc launching at release. Each race has a subrace except for humans.
Baldur's Gate 3 character creation has the potential to be the greatest customization in the game ever. Like Larian Studios' previous game Divinity Original Sin 2. The customization for your character will have importance in the entirety of the game.
Classes and Subclasses
Looking at classes and subclasses there are a total of 11 classes to pick from.
each class can be played and each holds a specific subclass too. For instance, Paladin has two subclasses that a player can choose from with slight differences in player action skill. But if you pick a cleric not only are there multiple subclasses there are different diety worships and beliefs too. All of which help add to the player's story.
Depending on the class you pick it will favor a specific ability. Like if you choose the rogue class the ability Dexterity will be favored. Which in return will give your character a bonus in ranged weapons along with certain melee ones.
Skills and Abilities
Skills will get a bonus for every skill you are proficient in, Like an extra 2 points if your character skill set revolves around stealth. In it is in your proficiencies then you will receive an extra 2 points making you that master thieve or a stealthy ninja.
Like we said the class you choose can affect your abilities. Which are Strenght, Dexterity, Constitution, intelligence, wisdom, and charisma. All will affect your play through and the good news is you can alter these points early on in the character customization screen.

Whereas wizards do not have a subclass but have three different skill sets to choose from such as Cantrips, Spells, and prepared spells. That you can customize each set to your liking.
As you see character customization can get in-depth and if you are not careful you could be spending what you thought was an hour could be hours.
Everything has importance to how you will play Baldur's Gate 3. Thanks to Baldur's Gate 3 character creation being so in-depth from race to skill it all matters.
For your Barbarian class, you can choose Elf for your race and High Elf for your subrace and receive different dexterity and wisdom. Or even as a wood elf and your stats become slightly different from High elf.
Here's the thing on how in-depth the character customization goes. In the customization, you can even choose which spells you want to start your mage or blood mage. The more pay attention to your build you can make a pretty darn scary wizard early on.
But this is just a small surface level of how in-depth the character creation can be. Keep in mind for anyone playing the early access version we still can’t use all of the Origin backgrounds.
